You most likely associate the term “salt water” with the ocean… and for good reason. If you’re a Southwest Florida native, the beach and ocean has been an important part of your life for a long time. But Sweetwater Pool Service is here to share some exciting news with you! We can transform your ordinary, run-of-the-mill chlorine pool into a Salt Water Pool that will drastically enhance your swimming pool experience and investment!
In this blog, we’ll discuss how a salt water pool system works along with a multitude of benefits that comes with it.
How it Works
Have you ever heard of a salt chlorine generator? This is installed in the pool’s existing pump and filter system. Instead of adding chlorine to the pool water, add salt and the salt chlorine generator will convert it to chlorine. A salt water pool gets its name because the water needs a high enough level of salt for the machine to function, in turn, it makes the water feel smoother.
The two components of the salt chlorine generator are the cell and control board. Once the pool water flows through the cell, a series of metallic grids with a low-voltage current generates a reaction that converts the salt down to extremely small bubbles of pure chlorine. As an end result, the pure chlorine reacts with the water to create hypochlorous acid.
Benefits of a Salt Water Pool
If you’ve ever gone for a swim in a salt water pool, you know what we’re about to tell you. But if you haven’t, sorry to say… you’re missing out and you will hopefully experience it soon! Some of the benefits include:
- Soft, silky smooth water because of the salt
- No harsh chemical odor because the machine produces the chlorine for you
- Significantly reduced skin and eye irritation
- Convenient sanitization method
- Great for your kids when they swim underwater
Your salt chlorine generator will generally last somewhere between four and seven years, depending on the type of preventative maintenance it receives.
